Norway Maple Burl

Mischa found this tree a few years ago in his neighborhood while enjoying ice cream with his dog

The tree was an old one and although beautiful due to bad trimmings and age had become a problem for the homeowner.

It only took a few minutes of speaking with the homeowner that it was discovered they did want this tree removed. Mischa happily volunteered for the task and got to work. Shortly after the rotten tree was safely on the ground and brought back to our shop.

This has now been dried and hand selected from the tree the whole way to each individual block to show figure and colors.

This tree had figure that ranged from a mild quilt to exceedingly tight burl figure.

The unique patterns and contrast in colors naturally occurring in this wood were absolutely stunning. At this point we had carefully prepared our canvas.

Now it was time to paint.

From here these carefully selected pieces of wood undergo our in house impregnation process that fully impregnates the wood with vibrant colors and turns the once fragile wood into a durable material ready to be worked.
